Argyle Fans To Boost League One Crowds

Argyle Fans To Boost League One Crowds

Argyle fans are set to give the League One attendance numbers a boost for the new season.

The average home and away attendances for season 2016-2017 indicate the Green Army will record one of the highest followings during the new season compared to the rest of League One.

The attendance figures based on last season across 17 League One teams, the three teams relegated from the Championship and the four teams promoted from League Two show that Argyle fans will more than hold their own when it comes to following their team home and away in a higher league.

Last season in League Two Argyle averaged 9,652 crowds at Home Park, which translated to season 2017-2018 in League One would be the eighth largest attendance.
The Greens also had an average of 1,025 fans at away games, the fifth largest following compared against teams who will play in League One for the new season and higher than the three clubs, Blackburn Rovers, Rotherham United and Wigan, who played in the Championship last season.

Argyle's run of games for promotion from League Two last season helped to increase crowds and a consecutive promotion will push home and away attendances to one of the highest in League One.
The same can be said for Portsmouth who also enjoyed excellent home and away attendances last season and are sure to attract good crowds again.

Home attendances for the three former Championship clubs would have been artificially inflated last season due to the excellent travelling support from the likes of Newcastle United and Leeds United etc and crowd numbers will suffer in League One meaning attendances at Home Park could eclipse those at Rotherham and Wigan and possibly Blackburn.

The grandstand at Home Park is scheduled to close for refurbishment midway through the season which will restrict the total attendance but a full house will still be enough for the Greens to have top five crowds in League One.
