Plymouth 1 - 3 Plymouth

Argyle started their pre-season schedule with a 3-1 win against city rivals Plymouth Parkway.

The local side welcomed Argyle and the Green Army to their ground at Bolitho Park and staged several pre-match activities as well as taking part in an entertaining game.

The game attracted an excellent crowd who saw Argyle wear their new away kit for the first time and it looked very good.

It was also the chance to see Graham Carey for the first time since he committed to a new contract and his Man of the Match performance showed why his return is a huge signing for the Greens.

Manager Derek Adams employed his usual 4-2-3-1 formation with youngster Cameron Sangster playing in midfield.
New signings keeper Robbert te Locke, Aaron Taylor-Sinclair, Lionel Ainsworth and Ryan Edwards all started the game.

A determined Parkway side took the lead when former Argyle defender Aaron Bentley headed in from a corner.

Carey scored either side of half time, his first was a fantastic solo goal and his second was more a curling cross that deceived the keeper and flew into the far corner of the net.

Gregg Wylde and Ainsworth wandered off the touchline during the first half and congested the play inside, who knows if this was a deliberate tactic from Adams because for the second half both stayed wide and the performance of the team improved.

Wylde did cut inside late in the game and jinked past a few tackles to send a right footed shot into the far corner. It was like watching Matty Kennedy!

Sangster had a very good game, he's obviously lightweight at his age but he's calm and assured as a midfielder.

I thought Robbert te Loeke was quiet and not vocal enough for a keeper, he needs to be more commanding but he did make some good saves.

Sonny Bradley and Edwards had a running battle with the Parkway number 9, they took a few elbows and were professional enough not to get involved. That said, the Parkway number 9 did well to unsettle them.

Ainsworth had his moments, he had a better game in the second half; he's diminutive and tricky with quick feet and took all the corners from the right side.

Taylor-Sinclair is surprisingly tall for a left-back back, he's looks clumsy and awkward although he played well.

Adams still used the zonal marking when defending corners, it worked from January onwards until the last few games last season, today it didn't work because we conceded from a corner.

Credit should go to Parkway for a great afternoon and for giving us a good game.

The match was all about fitness and the Argyle players would have benefitted from a good work out.
