Saltash 0 - 2 Argyle

Saltash 0 - 2 Argyle

Argyle's second pre-season game, just 45 minutes after the first, ended in a 2-0 win against Saltash United.

Manager Derek Adams and the rest of us left Plymouth Parkway straight after the final whistle and hot-tailed it into Cornwall to face Saltash.

The Argyle line-up was a different one, although it was good to see Graham Carey and Gregg Wylde had also left Plymouth to watch this match in Saltash.

Jakub Sokolik and Jamie Ness were absent from the team but were at the game, leaving Adams to name a young centre-back pairing in Jordan Bentley and Callum Rose with Nathan Blissett leading the attacking and flanked by Jake Jervis and Joel Grant. Ruben Lameiras played the Carey role behind the striker while Yann Songo'o and David Fox anchored the midfield.

It was another good work out for Argyle although the hard and bobbly pith didn't help produce free flowing football.

Lameiras was the stand out player, able to find space to create and pick out a pass.

The first half ended goal-less.

The second half was much better, although the injured Rose was replaced by Harry Hodges who played at right-back, Oscar Threlkeld moved into midfield and Songo'o moved 10 yards back and played as a centre-back.

This half was all about Lameiras, he ran the show for Argyle and it was he who grabbed the first goal with a side foot shot from 12 yards out.

Winger Joel Grant was also having a good influence on the game and was causing problems down the left side.

Blissett was replaced by Alex Fletcher and only good goalkeeping stopped him from scoring two certain goals.
Grant did get Argyle's second goal when he met a great cross from Jervis to volley home into the far corner.

The game was not as entertaining as the game against Parkway but it was still a good work out for the team.
Lameiras looks a very good player but how can Adams accommodate both him and Carey into the same team?

The young players across both games, especially Sangster and Hodges, played very well.

Credit once again to Saltash for giving Argyle a good game.
