Dagenham match report

A lacklustre performance from Argyle saw their nine game run at the top of League Two end with a lucky 1-1 draw against Dagenham and Redbridge.

The Greens were very disappointing throughout the game but kept going until the end and grabbed a precious point in the 92nd minute when substitute Ryan Brunt rifled a shot into the roof of the net with the aid of a slight deflection.

Joss Labadie gave Dagenham a deserved 59th minute lead, shrugging off a very weak challenge from Argyle defender Luke Croll to slot past the advancing Christian Walton.

At times it didn't look like a top of the table team were playing a team third from bottom.
Dagenham are yet another team who have done their research on Argyle and stopped us playing by closing down and hassling, allowing our two centre-backs to have the ball deep into Argyle's half and we couldn't cope or break down a determined Dagenham team.

Argyle barely mustered a shot on target during the first half, with the front attacking four of Jake Jervis, Craig Tanner, Gregg Wylde and Garham Carey struggled to get into the game.

At the other end Jodi Jones was causing problems on the Argyle left while the poor distribution from Croll put Argyle in danger several times, including one which resulted in a very good penalty shout for the Daggers, luckily Croll got away with it.

Christian Walton had to be alert to save low to his right and on the stroke of half time Carey picked up an injury.

For the second half Carey and the now injured Josh Simpson were replaced by Brunt and Ben Purrington who surprisingly played in midfield. Tanner moved to play behind Brunt and Jervis moved to the right wing.
The enforced changes didn't make no difference to Argyle's lethargic play, passes continued to go out of play or straight to a player wearing red.

Labadie gave Dagenham the lead and couldn't react to keep their place at the top of the league.
With 991 Argyle fans ready to voice their frustration at the final whistle Brunt took a gamble after controlling a long kick from Walton and smashed the ball into the roof of the net from 20 yards out.
1-1 and the mood amongst the fans changed for the better.

Walton made a number of good saves to earn us the point but his kicking usually hits a linesman. Croll was out of his depth and struggled, his weak challenge led to Dagenham's goal.
Nelson virtually held the team together on his own as pass after pass missed the target and rolled out for a throw-in. We looked really short on confidence.
Argyle finished the game with eight players aged 22 or under.

A word for the ref who had an excellent game.

The point was more important than the performance for this one and with so many key players missing through injury, including two more today, it's crucial the team still pick up points while we wait for the cavalry to arrive.

Man of the match. Nelson. Well played.

Walton 6, Mellor 5, Nelson 8, Croll 4, Sawyer 6, McHugh 6, Simpson 5, Carey 5, Tanner 6, Wylde 5, Jervis 4. Subs Purrington 5, Brunt 7, Harvey n/a.
