Morecambe match report

Argyle's Easter resurrection!

A comfortable win where we controlled large parts of the game against a Morecambe team down to ten men for the second half.
With goal difference becoming more important it's disappointing we didn't score more goals although to be fair to Morecambe they defended well and finished the stronger team, hitting the cross bar in the closing minutes.

Playing with two strikers made such a difference and the win was due to the change in tactics and hitting early long balls to Matt and Reid. Matt got through a lot of work, putting a shift in for the team and was rewarded with a well taken goal.
Reid had his best game for a while and is a much better player with a partner alongside him and balls played to feet.

Carey played on the left in a 4-4-2 line up but often drifted inside which meant any attacking threat rarely came from the left side.

Carey and Jervis had shots well saved in the first half and Houghton got the goal we deserved with a shot from 25 yards after an assist from Reid.

McCormick had to make one good save in the first half but generally Morecambe were toothless upfront.

Kenyon was sent off for an horrific two footed tackle on McHugh late on the first half. Luckily McHugh was alright after receiving treatment.

Matt finished off a great cross from Jervis early in the second half. As expected we completely controlled the game after the second goal but didn't find the killer final pass for more goals.

Tanner came on for Matt and initially played alongside Reid before swapping with Jervis.
Wylde replaced Carey and Boateng made his entrance replacing McHugh with an eye on Monday in mind.

Houghton had an excellent game, very neat and tidy and always played the simple ball. Reid had a few half chances, he just needs that first goal to set him on his way.

Matt worked hard for the team and him and Reid look a good partnership, let's hope the 4-4-2 formation continues.

McHugh was solid, as was Nelson and Hartley as ever.
McCormick looked to be back on form, good handling and a good first half save. Carey still isn't the same player from before his injury.

Overall a well deserved win and we are back on track, it's just a pity we didn't go on to score 4 or 5 goals.

Man of the Match. Houghton.

McCormick 7, Threlkeld 6, Nelson 7, Hartley 7, Sawyer 7, Houghton 8, McHugh 7, Carey 5, Jervis 6, Matt 8, Reid 7. Subs Tanner 6, Wylde 5, Boateng n/a.

So sorry for the travelling fan's stuck on the M6 who missed this. We all feel for you.
