Argyle striker Jamille Matt scored two first half goals in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Portsmouth.

The League Two play-off semi-final first leg game at Fratton Park was blood and thunder and a good advert for League Two football.
The Greens now hold the edge with the home leg to be played on Sunday.

It was a great game with a fantastic atmosphere but that was the most nervy game I've watched since we escaped from relegation against Rochdale.

We played well in the first half and should have been 3 or 4 goals up but the second half was a lot different, we sat back, defended well and hung on for the draw.

Portsmouth had a tactic of putting a player on keeper Luke McCormick to hinder his kicking and Pompey's first goal came from that.
Curtis Nelson also made a mistake and lost the ball and McCormick was stranded as McNulty easily slotted past him in just the third minute.

Step forward Matt with two opportunist goals and what a stroke of luck Pompey signed such a poor keeper just before the match! The Football League allowed Portsmouth to sign Bournemouth keeper Ryan Allsopp on-loan just before the game, don't ask me they make it up as they go along.
But anyway AllSopp was poor!
Matt out jumped Allsop to head in from a Gregg Wylde headed cross, it was very similar to his goal against Pompey three weeks ago in the league game.

Soon after Matt flicked a ball over his head from a throw-in and beat the Premier League keeper. 2-1 to Argyle.
Pompey were poor in defence and were there for the taking. Graham Carey had two shots just go wide and the score could have been 4-1 to Argyle at half-time.

Matt should have been red carded for a head-butt and still might receive punishment following video evidence.

The second half was a lot different. Pompey surged through the middle and through the channels, Gary Sawyer at left-back was a particular target. Midfielders Boateng and McHugh struggled to stop the wave of attacks through the middle.

Nelson made the silly mistake of letting the ball bounce, he put Peter Hartley in trouble and he brought down Roberts and was lucky to get a yellow and not a red card.
Roberts easily beat McCormick from the penalty spot.

We held on but I can't remember a shot on target from us in the second half but 2-2 away is good as long as we capitalise at home on Sunday.

Argyle assistant manager Paul Wotton and Portsmouth boss Paul Cook were sent to the stands early in the first half.

Both sides guilty of giving the ball away, Kelvin Mellor was our best defender and we might rue letting Pompey off the hook during the first half.
Both goals scored by Pompey came from two mistakes from Nelson.

Some players made mistakes, some were not quite on their game but they all battled and have 100% effort.

Man of the match: Matt.

McCormick 6, Mellor 7, Hartley 7, Nelson 5, Sawyer 6, McHugh 6, Boateng 6, Wylde 6, Jervis 5, Carey 7, Matt 8. Subs Purrington n/a, Tanner n/a.
