Three goals from centre-back Sonny Bradley ensured Argyle beat Stevenage 2-1!

Bradley scored his three goals in 11 second half minutes, two for Argyle and an unfortunate own goal when a cross rebounded off him and into the net.

Argyle won the battle of the free kicks and headers and won the game thanks to two great headers from Bradley.
It was fitting that all three goals came from free kicks because the niggly game was littered with free kicks, not helped by fussy ref Ross Joyce who didn't let the game flow and whistled for an amazing 27 free-kicks.

The first half was very scrappy, both teams played the long ball and got the ball forward quick, it was stop-start and free kick after free kick.
Stevenage bombarded us with set pieces and long throws into our area and apart from a few scares we dealt with them very well with Bradley and partner Nauris Bulvitus using their heads in more ways than one.

At the other end Jimmy Spencer, Graham Carey, David Fox and the impressive Jordan Slew all had shots that fizzed just wide or over. Spencer also hit the cross bar wi th a clever shot with the outside of his foot.

It seemed for the first half we had to battle to play football but for the second half our good passing and good football did the talking. We were a much better team during that second period.

A Fox free kick was headed in by Bradley, most media outlets gave the goal to Fox but Bradley had the last touch; soon after the ref gave another suspect free kick to Stevenage and Bradley couldn't get out of the way and scored an unlucky own goal.

Nevermind because Bradley went down the other end and thumped in another header from a fantastic Carey free-kick.

We had chances to win by 3 or 4, Slew was excellent on the left, he got into some be very good positions but didn't trust his left foot and had to cut inside onto his favoured right foot and the chance was gone.
He's the latest right footed player to be played on the left and he looks the best option.

Spencer had a shot cleared off the line and Jervis had an angled shot well saved by Jones in the Stevenage keeper.

We had a late scare but thankfully keeper Luke McCormick smothered the shot at the second attempt.

It wasn't pretty but it's horrible games like this that need to won to win promotion. So job done.

Carey had a quiet game by his standards and maybe the hustle and bustle in midfield didn't suit him.

Slew deserves another chance on the left, Ben Purrington is growing in stature game by game and took a horrible elbow to the face, Yann Songo'o is a real force in games like this, Spencer battled well up front and on another day could have had two three goals.

What can you say about Bradley? A warrior at the back and a goal scorer up front, a strange hat trick and easily man of the match. What a player! He came up to the fans at the end of the game and hugged who I assume was his father.

Stevenage are a nice friendly club with excellent stewards who were very welcoming.

Another three points, nine wins and a draw from 10 games and still five points clear at the top of League Two. Pretty darn good!

On me head Son!

McCormick 7, Miller 6, Bultivis 7, Bradley 9, Purrington 7, Songo'o 7, Fox 7, Carey 6, Slew 7, Jervis 6, Spencer 7. Subs Smith 6, Ijaha 7, Goodwillie n/a.
